An animal grooming brush can be a hazard to the user and animal alike if either party becomes alarmed or reacts in an uncontrolled manner during its use.
Certain natural and synthetic fibers used in the manufacture of animal grooming brushes may give rise to allergic reactions, cause or create discomfort or irritation for the user or animal. A user should be familiar with both their own and their animal’s allergies and behavior during the grooming process and safeguard against any possible adverse reaction thereto. The use of an animal grooming brush should only be undertaken in an area cleared of impediments.
It is normal for brush fibers to break off in use and for an animal grooming brush to loose its effectiveness over time depending on any number of factors, including use and care of the brush. As brushes are used they collect bacteria and other matter that may give rise to an adverse reaction for user and animal alike. Therefore it is recommended that all animal grooming brushes be cleaned after each use with anti-bacterial soap and hot water and that they be inspected and replaced periodically as fiber content of the brush declines and residue build up occurs on the brush fibers.
